"Little Women is a snow globe of girlhood that has been shaken and retold, generation after generation, for 150 years. Since 1917, it has been adapted for film seven times. The March sisters still act as an enduring personality test for young readers who see themselves in the mature Meg, the vain and ambitious Amy, the shy and sentimental Beth or, more often than not, the tomboyish Jo, who is the heroine of unruly, writerly girls—girls like Louisa May Alcott and Greta Gerwig," (New York Times).

Drawing on the writings of Louisa May Alcott, this timeless and timely film unfolds as the author's alter ego, Jo March (Ronan), reflects on coming of age in the aftermath of the Civil War. Though all very different from each other, the March sisters stand by each other through difficult and changing times. Portraying Jo, Meg, Amy and Beth, the film stars Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, with Timothée Chalamet as their neighbor Laurie, Laura Dern as Marmee, and Meryl Streep as Aunt March. D: Greta Gerwig, US, 2019,

Nominated for 6 Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Actress (Saoirse Ronan), Best Supporting Actress (Florence Pugh), Best Adapted Screenplay (Greta Gerwig), Best Costume Design and Best Original Score.

What emerges from Gerwig’s adaptation is a strong sense that indignation is not just the natural lot of women but their rousing right...It may just be the best film yet made by an American woman
