Hopkins Center Fellows Program

The Hopkins Center Fellowship Program values student agency. Overseen by The Office of Fellowships and Student Initiatives and Staff Mentors, its experiential learning core calls students to gain transferable skills via work at The Hopkins Center of the Arts, build capacity by generating student arts-based events, and immerse in career development and artistic excursions.

The goals of the program are:  

  • to build capacity and transferable skills within a professional arts organization;
  • to support and produce Dartmouth student artists;
  • to immerse students in field experiences to network, discover careers, and gain inspiration.

Past Fellow projects have included:

  • Developing a digital collection of Mexican wind band music
  • Creating Instagram campaigns to engage students
  • Collaborating with student and house groups on events
  • Analyzing large-scale audience surveys
  • Editing audio and producing video of tracks from Coast concerts
  • Organizing a public vigil and demonstration
  • Leading public panel discussions
  • Interviewing and writing articles on visiting artists
  • Developing policies and practices for Hop visitors
  • Documenting a Hop artist residency through video
  • Stage managing dozens of productions
  • Organizing an Arts Careers week for professional development

These arts administration fellowships are for rising sophomores ('27s), juniors ('26s) and seniors ('25s), and graduate students (where noted). Must be enrolled for fall, winter, and spring of the 2024/2025 academic year.

Research Fellow

Research

The Research Fellow will simultaneously explore the Hop’s history and future through a combination of archival work, focus groups, interviews and survey collections.

The Development Fellow will learn how to identify, cultivate, solicit, recognize and steward prospects and donors to establish and nurture relationships and to raise resources under the mentorship of two Development professionals.

Film Management

The Film Management Fellow reports to the Film Programming Manager. This position is designed to give the fellow experience with many different parts of running a film program.

The Hop Jewelry Studio Fellow works closely with the Director of the Claflin Jewelry Studio and staff to elevate the studio’s presence on campus as a place of creativity and inclusivity.

The Marketing & Campus Outreach Fellow helps drive a vigorous, multi-prong marketing strategy—developing and distributing impactful materials, growing connections across campus, and working to amplify word-of-mouth engagement.

The Programming & Engagement Fellow will be immersed in all aspects of the Programming Department’s work, which includes academic residency activities, cross-campus connections and curation opportunities, and community engagement and education.

Production & Company Manager

The Production and Company Management Fellow works alongside the Hop’s Production Department to successfully accomplish live performances and events by assisting with artist hospitality, executing timely calls of the show (ex: Half Hour/15/5/Places/GO), and aiding with equipment set-up and break-down.

Writing

The Writing Fellow works under the mentorship of an experienced arts writer/editor to write for and edit the Hop blog, interview artists, proofread marketing materials, and collaborate with the rest of the Hop’s marketing team to write engaging copy targeted toward students.

Special Projects (Graduate Students)

Only open to graduate students and '25s. The Hop Special Projects Fellow(s) will gain knowledge of arts management by spearheading their own arts-related projects, and potentially assisting with other staff-directed projects or conducting research assigned by mentors, under the direction of the Hop Directors.
