Satisfied Film Screening
with Renée Elise GoldsberrySatisfied Film Screening
with Renée Elise GoldsberryAn intimate look at the actress Renée Elise Goldsberry; a woman's struggle to have a family and balance a career, against the backdrop of the hit musical 'Hamilton.'
In 2015, Hamilton opened and took the world by storm, earning near-universal critical acclaim and, some might say, forever changing the course of musical theater. It certainly changed the life of Renée Elise Goldsberry, who starred as Angelica Schuyler and would go on to win the Tony Award for her performance. The journey to that win was a hard one, though, filled with uncertainty, loss, and, ultimately, growth.
Satisfied takes viewers through that emotional journey, providing an intimate look at Goldsberry's path as she grapples with fertility and the desire to have a family, all while balancing her growing career. After originating the role of Nettie Harris in the Broadway musical adaptation of The Color Purple, she wowed audiences as Mimi in the Broadway revival of Rent (the original musical was partially developed by the New York Theater Workshop at the Hopkins Center back in 1994). And then came that fateful invitation to audition for Hamilton.
With vlogs Goldsberry recorded over the years and exclusive never-before-seen footage of the making of Hamilton, audiences are given a front-row seat to not only the show itself but also get a chance to deeply understand the sacrifices and battles Goldsberry navigated on her way to motherhood and stardom.
