A Hop Salute to "Hamilton"

About Alex Horwitz

Alex Horowitz is a director, writer, editor and producer, best known for Hamilton's America, a Peabody Finalist documentary that explores America's founding through the creation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton. His most recent film, Autonomy, is the first comprehensive documentary about self-driving cars, created with author Malcolm Gladwell. Alex's other work as a director includes a Bon Jovi music video, a short film starring Blue Man Group and Alice Jacobs is Dead, which won Best Horror Film at the San Diego Comic-Con.

Hamilton's America (2016)

"A documentary about the creation of Hamilton offers a thrilling portrait of the theatrical hip-hop genius of Lin-Manuel Miranda." Variety

Good news: As Miranda's former college roommate, Horwitz had the unique opportunity and access to document the making of Hamilton from the very beginning. Some of you may remember Alex's video shout-out that opened our screening of the film in 2016. Scroll down to the media gallery to see Alex and his surprise message!

Bad News: This film is not available to watch in its entirety as it is locked away in the PBS vault.

More Good News: There are a wealth of film scenes (50m worth!) and exclusive images HERE on the PBS website. Also, these two reviews/articles are essential reads on the movie.

Autonomy (2019)

Join celebrated journalist and author Malcolm Gladwell as he leads the first comprehensive documentary dive into the world of automated vehicles—and the future. Autonomy engagingly explores self-driving cars, human ingenuity and the existential dread that accompanies this technology. Smartly straddling the line between techno-optimism and necessary caution, the film poses the inherent big questions: what is control and who do we become as we relinquish it to machines?
